Title:
TEMPERATURE MEASURING INSTRUMENT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH02290519
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To accurately measure temperature in a relatively small range by measuring the difference in optical path length of light traveling among reflecting mirrors by an optical path length measuring instrument when a reference member is at reference temperature and at temperature to be measured. CONSTITUTION:The optical path length measuring instrument 6 measures the difference in optical path length of the light traveling among reflecting mirrors 2 - 5 when the reference member 1 is at the reference temperature and at the temperature to be measured to know the temperature to be measured. Namely, the member 1 expands or contracts with temperature, so when the member 1 varies from the reference temperature to the temperature to be measured, the member 1 expands or contracts corresponding to the temperature variation. Consequently, the mutual distances of the reflecting mirrors 2 - 5 vary corresponding to the temperature variation and the light which travels by being reflected 2 - 5 varies in optical path length. Therefore, DELTAL=a.L.DELTAt holds, where DELTAL is the variation in the optical path length, L the original optical path length, (a) the coefficient of linear expansion of the member 1, and DELTAt the temperature variation. Therefore, DELTAt=(1/a.L)DELTAt is derived. For the purpose, the physical quantity corresponding to DELTAt is measured to find the temperature DELTAt.
