Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a new compound useful as an electrooptical display material.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I (R1 and R2 are 1-10C alkyl) such as 4"-butyl-2'-f luoroterphenyl-4-carboxylic acid-ethyl. The compound is obtained by converting a compound of formula II as a starting material to a compound of formula III by successive reactions and reacting the compound of formula III with an alcohol in pyridine. Addition of the compound of formula I to a common liquid crystal composition can enhance anisotropy of refractive index.
