NEW MATERIAL:A tetracyanobenzene electric charge transfer complex shown by formula I (X is O, S, Se, NH or substituted imino).
USE: Dye, pigment, functional dyestuff or various photoconductive materials.
PREPARATION: A compound shown by formula II is reacted with 1,2,4,5- tetracyano-3,6-difluorobenzene in a nonpolar solvent such as dichloromethane, tetrahydrofuran or benzene at 0W50°C to give a compound shown by formula I. The compound shows absorption spectrum in a wide visible wavelength range and is useful as a dyestuff for coloring low-molecular substances such as liquid crystal and coloring sheetlike, fibrous or other molded articles comprising a synthetic high polymer substance. Kneading and transfer may be cited as the coloring method. The compound is further valuable as various functional dyestuffs such as dyestuffs for optical recording materials, organic sensitized materials for electrophotography and dyestuffs heat-sensitive and pressure- sensitive recording.
