To provide a theft preventing wire which allows only a person having legitimate authority to release a connecting lock thereof tied to an electronic appliance.

According to the theft preventing wire, when a USB plug 13 of a key section 12 of the theft preventing wire 10 is inserted into a USB port 31 of a laptop computer 30, a releasing number generated at the key section 12 is notified to the laptop computer 30, and e-mailed to an address of the person having the legitimate authority. The key section 12 mechanically locks the USB plug 13 and the USB port 31 to each other. When the theft preventing wire 10 is disengaged, the e-mailed releasing number is notified via the laptop computer 30 to the key section 12. The key section 12 then releases the mechanical lock between the USB plug 13 and the USB port 31 only when a stored releasing number coincides with the notified releasing number.
