To provide a thermal conversion method and thermal conversion apparatus capable of softly and cost effectively converting residues to a solid and off-gas.
In the thermal conversion method for the residues for forming the solid and the off-gas at a temp. above the m.p. of the inorg. compsn. within the residues, the residues are converted to liquid slag and 99 within a melting cyclone 10 when the residues are put into the melting cyclone 10. The gas and liquid slag are removed from the melting cyclone 10 via the bottom hole 13 in the melting cyclone 10. The gas and liquid slag are supplied from the melting cyclone 10 to an intermediate space 20. The gas is rapidly cooled by water injection and the liquid slag is supplied to a water tank 23 for the purpose of cooling and granulating.
