PURPOSE: To provide thermal head with long life and better yield in manufacturing process by forming heat generating resistance layers in heat generating section in such a way that makes clearance between heat generating sections small and by forming heat generating resistance layers and electrode layers into the same pattern for other than heat generating sections.

CONSTITUTION: In order to make clearance u1 between heat generating sections 11' sufficiently small, heat generating resistance layer 11 in heat generating section 11', other than both ends which serve as connecting part with electrode 12, is so formed that width W1 of the intermediate section may be larger than width W2 of electrode layer 12. Other sections than heat generating section 11', in the neighborhood of heat-generating section 11', are formed with heat generating resistance layers 11 and electrode layers 12 which form the same pattern. When the clearance between heat generating sections is small, there is the least possibility of occurrence of destruction resulting from changes in resistance value of heat generating resistance and thermal strain of heat generating resistance, thus ensuring a long life. In addition, narrowing only the clearance W1 between heat generating section 11' contributes toward manufacturing with better yield.
