PURPOSE: To obtain a thermal head improved in wear resistance and surface smoothness and realizing a high image quality without using a large-scale production equipment by a method wherein an overglaze layer is composed of a lower overglaze layer formed by printing/calcining a glass paste containing a filler and an upper overglaze layer formed by no printing/calcining an amorphous glass paste containing filler.
CONSTITUTION: In a thick-film thermal head formed by providing a glass heat accumulation layer 2, a common electrode 3a, a discrete electrode 3b, a heating resistor 4, and an overglaze layer on an insulating substrate 1, the overglaze layer is composed of a lower overglaze layer 5 formed by printing/calcining a glass paste containing a filler and an upper overglaze layer 6 formed by printing/calcining an amorphous glass paste containing no filler. In addition, after the upper overglaze layer is formed on the lower overglaze layer, a part of the lower overglaze layer is exposed by lapping. In this treatment, good wear resistance and surface smoothness are obtained.
