To enhance the glossiness of a printing surface of a recording medium by one thermal head for performing printing.
This thermal head 100 is used for a printer which applies print processing and overcoat processing after the print processing to the recording medium. The thermal head 100 comprises: a supporting substrate 10; heating portions 11 and 12 which are arranged in a main-scanning direction on the supporting substrate 10; and an electrode portion which is electrically connected to the heating portions 11 and 12, and composed of an individual electrode 1, a folded electrode 2 and a common electrode 3. The heating portions 11 and 12 have an approximately parallelogrammatic shape with a predetermined angle of inclination with respect to a sub-scanning direction, when a bottom is directed in a main-scanning direction and a height is directed in the sub-scanning direction. In the overcoat processing, the heat distributions of the two adjacent heating portions have parts which overlap each other in the sub-scanning direction.
