Abstract:

To carry out accurately the detection of a residual capacity of a battery while printing without increasing cost in a thermal printer driven by the battery.

The residual energy capacity of a battery is detected by the steps of: detecting a voltage of the battery before starting to print; calculating an amount of residual energy before starting to print from the detected voltage of the battery on the basis of discharge characteristics to the voltage of the battery before starting to print; calculating a total amount of energy necessary for printing one dot line; and subtracting the total amount of energy necessary for printing one dot line from the amount of residual energy before starting to print.
