PURPOSE: To prolong the life of a thermal head by reducing the fluctuation of voltage and current which drives the thermal head while simplifying the driving control of the thermal head as the widths of driving pulses for rising of the thermal head become approximately the same at respective thermosensitive recording layers.

CONSTITUTION: A pressure adjusting board 24 is provided pivotably to the top of a thermal head 15 by a spring 23. The angle of the pressure adjusting board 24 is changed in response to respective thermosensitive recording layers of a color thermosensitive recording material 13, and the contact pressure of the thermal head 15 to the color thermosensitive recording material 13 is changed for each thermosensitive recording layer.
