To provide a recording paper taking-up mechanism easy to handle, a sensor structure enhanced in the position detection precision of recording paper and a stably operated ribbon tension loading mechanism, in a thermal transfer printer.
The thermal transfer printer is constituted so that the taking-up mechanism is drawn out to the front of the printer main body to be operated and the position of a sensor is allowed to approach a printing position by emitting light using a light guide plate. A swing arm operated by the tension of the ink ribbon provided in an ink ribbon feed passage and a belt, which cooperates with the swing arm to adjust the tension of the ribbon, are provided and a drum, over which the belt is stretched, is provided in an output transmission passage for the tension of the ribbon. The tension applied to the ink ribbon is kept constant by the cooperated change of the operation of the swing arm and the tension of the belt and a reinforcing member is embedded in a part of the belt.
