PURPOSE: To make a fine two-color print record without tailing or bordering, when record is made while employing thermal transfer material having two types of ink layers, by varying time necessary for separating recording material from the thermal transfer material between first color recording and second color recording.
CONSTITUTION: First and second ink layers of thermal transfer material 1 are formed to be separated easily immediately after application of thermal energy, while supporting material 1a and the first ink layer are formed not to be separated easily upon elapse of predetermined time. Before recording is carried out, recording material 6 and a thermal recording head 2 are pressure contacted respectively with the second ink layer and the supporting material 1a, then thermal energy is applied from a heating section 3 onto the thermal recording head 2. When they are separated immediately thereafter, second ink 1c is transferred. When the recording material 6 and the thermal transfer material 1 are separated upon elapse of predetermined time, first and second ink 1b, 1c are transferred simultaneously. The thermal transfer material 1 is moved with the same speed as that of a carriage 7, and the recording material 6 and thermal transfer material 1 are contacted tightly when recording with first color has finished. Since relative position does not change, a fine two-color print can be recorded without tailing or bordering.
