PURPOSE: To obtain an optical data memory film capable of forming an image by the irradiation with infrared rays and performing recording by the color change of optical data by using a specific infrared absorbing dye as an essentially thermochromic substance.
CONSTITUTION: An infrared absorbing dye represented by formula I [wherein R1 is H, -NH(O)CCH3 or the like; R2 and R3 are each respectively independently 1-12C alkyl, an aromatic group or alkanol or the like or polymers of them; R4 is H, -O-CH3 or -O-C2H5; R5 is respectively independently selected Cl, Br, F, 1-12C alkyl, alkoxy or the like; R6 is 1-12C alkylene; and m is an integer of 0-4] is used as an essentially thermochromic substance. When an optical data recording film containing the substance represented by formula I is irradiated with laser, thermochromic reaction is generated and the substance represented by formula I is converted to substances represented by formulae II, III and a color change is generated in the film to record data. When the substance represented by formula I has a polymerizable group, the dye can be covalently bonded to a polymer.
