Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermoelectric material configured to improve thermoelectric characteristics by improving electric conductivity, while reducing heat conductivity.SOLUTION: In the thermoelectric material, nanoparticles are dispersed in a base material that exhibits thermoelectric characteristics. The nanoparticle is formed of a substance in which phonons are scattered. One of the base material and the nanoparticle consists of a p-type semiconductor, and the other consists of an n-type semiconductor. An energy level at the top of a valence band of the p-type semiconductor is higher than an energy level at the bottom of a valence band of the n-type semiconductor. Tunnel effects are exhibited in a pn-junction of the base material and the nanoparticles.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
