PURPOSE: To obtain a readily producible polyester monofilament suitable for carcass of radial tire, having a specific diameter, a specified elongation at break, a prescribed heat shrinkage percentage and a specific rubber adhesion strength, etc. by subjecting a specific polyester to melt spinning.
CONSTITUTION: A polyester which comprises ≥99% polyethylene terephthalate and has ≥0.64 intrinsic viscosity and ≤15 meq/kg carboxyl group content is condensed in a solid state, subjected to melt spinning in a dry atmosphere to give a polyester monofilament having 0.4-0.9 mm diameter, ≥40 cN/tex tenacity, 12-30% elongation at break, 1% base elongation under 45N load, 0.5-5% heat shrinkage percentage at 160°C, ≥30 cN/tex/cm adhesion strength to rubber, preferably an elliptical cross section and excellent adhesivity to tire rubber.
