Abstract:
PURPOSE:To improve the adhesive strength, resistance to crack by drying, and stainproofness by compounding a latex obtd. by the emulsion polymn. of copolymerizable monomers including a specific diene or alkyl ester in the presence of an alpha-methylstyrene dimer with a thermosetting resin. CONSTITUTION:A copolymer latex is prepd. by the emulsion polymn. in the presence of an alpha-methylstyrene dimer of a monomer mixture comprising 2-70wt.% at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of aliph. conjugated diene, alkyl acrylate, and 6-14C alkyl methacrylate (pref. 1,3-butadiene), 0-8wt.% ethylenically unsatd. carboxylic acid (pref. a combination of acrylic acid with methacrylic acid) and 22-98wt.% other monomer copolymerizable with the two foregoing monomers (esp. pref. styrene). The latex is compounded with a thermosetting resin to give the title compsn.
