Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain an orientation material excellent in thermal stability and suitable for mass production by compounding an orientation material for liq. crystal alignment with a photopolymerized polyvinyl fluorocinnamate.

CONSTITUTION: A thermostable orientation material for liq. crystal alignment contg. photopolymerized polyvinyl fluorocinnamate is provided. A prepolymer is photopolymerized by the irradiation with a linear polarized ultraviolet light beam in order to enhance the thermal stability and to facilitate the plane orientation of a liq. crystal in a favorable direction. Sometimes, different types of polyvinyl fluorocinnamate prepolymers are obtd. from different initial polyvinyl alcohol mol.wts. Pref., the polyvinyl alcohol mol.wts. of these types of prepolymers are 15.000 or higher in order to obtain high thermal stability.
