To provide a thermostat housing for a water cooled engine by which conventional problems are solved.
The thermostat housing for the water cooled engine comprises a downward passage 3 provided between a thermostat storage chamber 1 and an inlet chamber 2 along the vertical direction, a side floating passage 4 provided in series on the sides of the thermostat storage chamber 1 and the downward passage 3, the side floating passage 4 being communicated with the inlet chamber 2 located downward thereof, and a thermostat 5 stored in the thermostat storage chamber 1. The upper end of the thermostat storage chamber 1 and the upper end of the side floating passage 4 are opened in series as an upper opening portion 6 at the upper end of the housing, an upper opening flange 7 is provided at the upper end of the housing to encircle the upper opening portion 6, a thermostat flange 8 extending from the thermostat 5 is seated on the upper opening flange 7, and the opening part of the upper opening portion 6, located at the upper end of the side floating passage 4, is covered with the thermostat flange 8. Thus, cooling water smoothly flows from the upper part of the side floating passage 4 to the thermostat storage chamber 1. The improved flow of the cooling water provides higher cooling efficiency.
