Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prepare a thickened dicylopentadiene(DCPD) system for producing a tough and rigid polydicyclopentadiene material.
CONSTITUTION: This system comprises dicyclopentadiene(DCPD) and a polycycloolefin polymer obtainable via the ring opening polymn. of at least one monomer having a norbornene moiety in its molecule (e.g. 2-norbornene or 5-methyl-2-norbornene). The polycycloolefin polymer may be a copolymer of the norbornene monomer with another polymerizable monomer (e.g. cyclobutene or 2-pentene). A polydicyclopentadiene material prepd. from this thickened system is more transparent than a similar material prepd. from a thickener system based on a thickener of a different type.
