To provide a new compound that can modulate the stability and/or activity of hypoxia inducible factor (HIF).
There is provided a compound represented by formula (I), wherein q is 0 or 1; one of X or Y is -S-, and the other is =C-R7; R1 is each hydroxy group, alkoxy group, acyloxy group, substituted cycloalkoxy group, or the like; R2, R3, R4 and R5 are each hydrogen atom, alkyl group, or the like; and R6 and R7 are each hydrogen atom, hydroxy group or the like.
