PURPOSE: To prevent the saturation of the trailing side pole of the thin-film magnetic head even if a gap depth is decreased in order to enhance writing efficiency.

CONSTITUTION: A leading side pole 1 retreats at an angle θ from a gap surface exclusive of the gap depth 4. This retreated part is filled with a 1st insulating layer 7 and is thereby flattened. Further, a gap layer 3, a coil 5 of a 1st layer, a 2nd insulating layer 8, a coil 6 of a 2nd layer, a 3rd insulating layer 9, and the trailing side pole 2 are formed thereon. The part of this trailing side pole 2 in contact with the gap surface is formed longer than at least the gap depth 4. The gap depth is relatively decreased in this way and magnetic fluxes are concentrated and satd. only near to the gap of the leading side pole. The sharp magnetization of a medium is thus possible.
