Title:
THIN FILM OPTICAL PARALLEL SERIAL CONVERTER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS58215633
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To perform operation with high efficiency even when a degree of integration is increased by allowing plural surface acoustic wave pulses to reach the same straight traveling path of an input light beam simultaneously and cause them Bragg differaction.

CONSTITUTION: Surface acoustic waves generated by two IDTs 31 and 32 at the same time reaches the straight traveling path of the light beam P1 at the same time. Namely, the surface acoustic wave pulses 51 and 52 cross only one of four parallel input light beams P1WP4 in order. The Bragg diffraction of the light beam P1 is carried out at the same time and even when the reflection efficiency of the Bragg diffraction by one surface aoustic wave pulse is low, the Bragg refraction is performed simultaneously by both pulses, so the input light beam P1 is guided to a light output part 2 as diffracted light beams Q1 and Q1' with extremely high efficiency. Thus, the high-efficiency operation with less conversion loss is carried out even when the degree of integration of the converter is increased.
