To provide a thin film solar cell and a manufacturing method of the same, which can increase an output of the thin film solar cell by enlarging an effective area of a transparent electrode layer, and decrease a level of defectiveness in manufacturing of the thin film solar cell by ensuring insulation properties at a second through hole.
The thin film solar cell comprises: a back electrode layer 3, a photoelectric conversion layer 4 and a transparent electrode layer 5 laminated in this order on one surface of an insulation substrate 2; a rear electrode layer 6 deposited on the other surface of the insulation substrate 2; and a second through hole 8 penetrating the insulation substrate through which the back electrode layer and the rear electrode layers are electrically connected. The photoelectric conversion layer 4 includes a laminate composed of at least n layers 41, 44, i layers 42, 45 and p layers 43, 46. The thin film solar cell further comprises an isolation groove formed by removing the transparent electrode layer and the photoelectric conversion layer by laser and provided at least at a position surrounding the second through hole. By providing a bottom of the isolation groove in the i layer of the photoelectric conversion layer, the transparent electrode layer on the outside of the isolation groove that surrounds the second through hole, and the rear electrode layer that electrically connects the transparent electrode layer and a hole lateral face of the second through hole are electrically insulated from each other.
