PURPOSE: To transmit and record thin lines electrically without a break, by performing the 2nd read scan in the middle of a scanning line to be transmitted, and by transmitting and recording a part which has no black signal before and after the scanning line in the black signal obtained by the scanning together with the black signal of the following scanning line.

CONSTITUTION: For the start of reading, a transfer gate 6 is opened by a pulse from a transfer pulse line 20 and the charge of a photodiode array 7 is transferred to a CCD shift register 5 to open an AND gate 17. At this time, the AND gate 17 is opened until the contents of a counter 16 reach a preset value. While the 2nd transfer pulse is sent to the signal line 20, a read signal 22 is sent out to open an AND gate 18. The scanning of an original feeder is fed by a half pitch. Then, the output of the CCD shift register 5 is binary-coded into black and white and inputted to shift registers 12 and 11. The outputs of the shift registers 5, 11 and 12 are processed by inverters 10 and 13, an AND gate 14, and an OR gate 15 to be outputted via an output line 21.
