PURPOSE: To obtain a thin film minimal in magnetic loss, increased in high frequency magnetic permeability, and minimal in deterioration in characteristics due to magnetostriction by forming its structure where the proportion of the crystalline grains having a body-centered cubic structure and composed essentially of Fe is regulated to a specific value or above.
CONSTITUTION: This thin magnetic film is constituted of an Fe-base soft- magnetic alloy having a metallic structure where the crystalline grains having body-centered cubic structure and composed essentially of Fe comprising 60% or more of the structure. This thin magnetic film is constituted, preferably, of an Fe-base soft-magnetic alloy where the average value of the grain sizes measured by the maximum sizes of crystalline grains is regulated to 300 or smaller. It is further preferable to form the metallic structure by means of change from amorphous state by heating. The figure shows the relationship between crystalline grains and effective permeability in the samples different in the percentage of fine crystalline grains in the case where ribbons made to be amorphous are prepared from a molten metal having a composition represented by Fe73.4Cu1Nb3.1B9.1 by a signal roll method under various heat treatment conditions.
