PURPOSE: To enhance high temp. durability and chemical resistance by reacting a polymer obtained by the ring opening polymn. of specific cyclothionyl chlorophosphazene with a salt.
CONSTITUTION: Cyclothionyl chlorophosphazene represented by formula I is subjected to ring opening polymerization at 100-300°C in the presence of an inert org. solvent to obtain a polymer represented by formula II ((n) is 30-10,600). The polymer is reacted with a salt represented by the formula, M (R1-R5) [wherein M is an alkali (alkaline earth) metal ion or a tetraalkylammonium ion and R1-R5 are each 1-18C alkoxy which may be substd., 5-8C cycloalkyl, 6-14C aryloxy, 7-18C alkaryloxy, 2-18C alkenoxy, 8-18C alkenylaryloxy or siloxanel to obtain a thionylphosphazene polymer having a repeating structure represented by formula III (wherein R1 is halogen, pseudohalogen or R2 and a ratio of unsaturated substituents R1-R5 is 10% or less on the basis of the total number of the substituents R1-R5) with an average mol.wt. of 10,000-3,500,000 (g/mol.).
