PURPOSE: To provide new thioxanthenones which are effective for decreasing sizes of tumors and thus which are useful in treatment of tumors and cancers in mammals.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I [(1) (n) is 2 or 3; R1 and R2 are each alkyl; Q is CH2NHR3, CH2NHCHO, CH2N(C2H5)CHO or formulae II-IX (R3 and R6 are each H or alkyl; R4 and R5 are each H, alkyl or Ar; R7 is alkyl or Ar; R9 and R10 are each alkyl, Ar is phenyl or phenyl substd. with methyl, methoxy, OH, halogen or NO2); R8 is OH; (2) Q is formulae II-IV, formula VIII or formula IX; R8 is H, alkyl, alkoxy or OH; (n), R1, R2, and R4-R7 have similar meanings to (1), with the proviso that one or more of R4, R5 and R7 is Ar; (3) Q is formulae VII-IX; R8 is H, alkyl, alkoxy or OH; others have meanings similar to (1)], or their acid addition salts or solvates, such as 1-[[2-(diethylamino)ethyl]aminol-4-[(methylamino)-methyl]-7- hydroxythioxanthen-9-one, is provided.
