The thread winder has a bobbin switching action switching bobbin holders 11, 12 between a winding position P1 and a standby position P2, and a contacting roller abuts on the bobbin in the winding position side to wind up continuously supplied thread to the bobbin. The thread winder comprises a threading guide 20 for conducting initial threading to the empty bobbin EB, and is provided with a two position selecting means selectively positioning the threading guide at a standby position P5 and a threading position for conducting threading, and an approaching means relatively bringing the empty bobbin and the thread threaded into the threading guide at the threading position closer.
