To produce a three-dimensional skeleton structural compd. having large mesopores by forming a two-dimensional interlayer compd. comprising a laminar compd. containing vanadium, phosphorus and oxygen as the basic compsn. of the skeleton with an org. cation present between layers and heat treating the two-dimensional intercalation compd.
A two-dimensional intercalation compd. is prepared by adding org. cations between layers of a laminar compd. containing vanadium, phosphorus and oxygen as the basic compsn. of the skeleton, and the obtd. intercalation compd. is heat treated to produce a three-dimensional skeleton structure compd. having 20 100 mesopores. In the two-dimensional intercalation compd., the average valance of vanadium is preferably 4.05 to 4.30. The amt. of the org. cations present between layers is preferably ≥20mol% to 1mol of vanadium. As for the org. cations, aliphatic, aromatic satd. or unsatd. compds. having 9 to 50 total carbon number can be used. Heat treatment is performed in a nitrogen atmosphere or in a water medium.
