Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the phase difference compensation plate constituted by using the photoisotropic sheets having extremely high surface smoothness as sheets for production of the phase difference compensation plate.
CONSTITUTION: This phase difference compensation plate is constituted by forming an oriented layer of a high-polymer liquid crystal between the photoisotropic sheet made of resins, the opposite surfaces layer of which are formed of resins having solvent resistance and liquid crystal orientability. At least either of the photoisotropic sheets made of the resins in such a case particularly preferably consist of the photoisotropic sheets having the resin layers formed by a casting film forming method on the surface side and having ≤0.5μm surface roughness of the free surface on the free surface of the resin layers, ≤30nm retardation value over the entire part, and ≥60% visible ray transmittance. The free surfaces of the resin layers are previously subjected to a rubbing treatment or the oriented films formed on the free surface side of the resin layers to the rubbing treatment at the time of forming the high-polymer liquid crystal layer.
