Abstract:

To generate a motion picture thumbnail which enables a user to easily grasp contents of a moving image.

A thumbnail generation apparatus is provided with: a moving image extracting section 20a for extracting, from a moving image, a moving image for a time shorter than a playback time of the moving image based on the number and area of face detection regions obtained from face detection information generated by detecting a face of a person included in the moving image; a reduction/enlargement scale calculating section 20b for integrating the face detection region at every predetermined time interval based on the face detection information of the moving image extracted by the moving image extracting section 20a, and calculating a reduction/enlargement scale of the moving image extracted by the moving image extracting section 20a so as to enlarge and display the face of the person included in the moving image extracted by the moving image extracting section 20a on the basis of a result of the integration; and a reduction/enlargement section 15 for generating a motion picture thumbnail by reducing or enlarging the moving image extracted by the moving image extracting section 20a, based on the reduction/enlargement scale calculated by the reduction/enlargement scale calculating section 20b.
