PURPOSE: To provide cheap and strong steel wire tie having section smaller than ever, by avoiding imposition of maximal tension due to expansion of the bale on the joints that connect both ends of the steel wire ties used for compressed bale.

CONSTITUTION: In one embodiment, a steel wire tie 30 is applied around such a compressed bale as a cotton bale 10 so that the joint 34 is placed at the top 36. Both ends of the steel wire tie 30 are formed as locking portions 32, 32 and the both ends are locked together to form a joint 34. Between two straight portions 42, 42 of the wire tie 30 are two marcelled portions 40, 40, formed by pressing a series of sine-waved concave-convex parts 44, 44. The wire tie can also be formed by overlapping and steel sealing of the flat ends of a strap, without formation of locking portions.
