Abstract:

PURPOSE: To dispense with any readjustment by making a steering wheel so as to be restored to the previously adjusted position without fail when it has been put back to an operating position from the retracted position in the case where a shaft member, where an operating lever is attached free of rotation, is locked to a fixed bracket free of positioning.

CONSTITUTION: The rear of a tilt bracket 5, where an upper column 7 is clamped to the rear end, is pivotally supported on the rear of a fixed bracket 1, where a lower column 2 is clamped to the front end, by a connecting pin 6, and a tension coil spring 13 is installed in space between spring support members 11 and 12 installed in these brackets 1, 5, energizing the tilt bracket 5 to the upper side. A circular long hole 25 making the connecting pin 6 of its center of curvature is formed in the fixed bracket 1, and a tilt lever shaft 26 as a shaft member being free of transfer to a normal operating position and a retracted position is inserted into this long hole, and then the lower part of a stopper plate 36 is attached to its circular shaft part 26b free of rotation. In addition, a retractive operating tilt operating lever 33 is attached to a special bolt 31 screwed in this circular shaft part 26b.
