Abstract:
PURPOSE: To improve various characteristics such as folding endurance, toughness and hardness of a sintered compact by suppressing deformation of titanium compound whisker at high temperature.
CONSTITUTION: The titanium compound whisker is a whisker in which a titanium compound whisker expressed by the formula Ti(Cx, Ny, Oz) {(x+y+z)=1 and 0<(x)<1, 0<(y)<1 and 0<(z)≤0.1} forms a solid solution with at least one element among elements of 4a, 5a and 6a group of the periodic table except Ti, and boron. Such titanium compound whisker is prepared by diffusing at least one element among elements of 4a, 5a and 6a group of the periodic table except Ti, and boron into the titanium compound whisker by heating. Then, the resultant titanium compound whisker is dispersed and incorporated into a matrix selected from ceramics, cermets, cemented carbide to form the objective composite material.
