Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photocatalyst which stably exhibits a high photocatalytic action under visible light irradiation and which is easily mass-produced.
SOLUTION: The metal halide-containing titanium oxide-based photocatalyst is obtained by subjecting titanium oxide and/or its precursor to heat treatment if necessary, and then subjecting the resultant product to further heat treatment while bringing it into contact with a reaction gas containing a metal halide expressed by the formula: MXn or MOXn (M= a metal, X= a halogen, n= an integer). The obtained photocatalyst demonstrates the high photocatalytic action stably under visible light irradiation. The photocatalyst may be stabilized by contact with water or further heat-treatment, and/or may be brought into contact with a heteropolyacid and/or isopolyacid to be further highly activated by introducing a metal complex into titanium oxide. The photocatalyst obtained by these methods shows novel ESR (electron spin resonance) characteristics. Other methods for manufacturing these photocatalysts, a photocatalyst dispersion liquid and a coating liquid containing the photocatalyst, a photocatalyst functional member utilizing the photocatalyst and a manufacturing method therefor are also provided.
