PURPOSE: To improve adhesive strength between a magnetic layer and a nonmagnetic supporting body and to obtain a magnetic recording medium having superior durability by pressing and pulling a grinding agent in the rectangular direction to the scanning direction of the nonmagnetic supporting body to form specific surface roughness and forming the magnetic layer on the rough surface by direct electron beam hardening.
CONSTITUTION: A grinding tape 3' is pressed by a grinding roll 2' rectangularly to the travelling direction (shown by the arrow) of the nonmagnetic supporting body 2' and then pulled as shown by the arrow to form flaws 4' having 0.05W 0.25μ plus point average roughness on the surface of the supporting body 1'. The magnetic layer is formed on the rough surface by using a magnetic coating material mainly consisting of magnetic particles and electron beam hardening binder. A similar rough surface is formed on the substrate of a magnetic disc vertically to the radial direction of the substrate. Thus, the magnetic recording medium having superior adhesive strength between the supporting body 1' and the magnetic layer is obtained without forming a primer layer.
