PURPOSE: To effectively suppress fog in an area where no image is printed by using an electric field controlling agent in an electrostatic latent image developer, to advantageously and accurately develop a latent image formed on a photosensitive body, and to improve sharpness of lines and characters.
CONSTITUTION: This electrostatic latent image developer contains a specified carrier 36, toner 40 and electric field controlling agent 38 with the weight proportion of carrier:toner:electric field controlling agent = (50 to 80%):(10 to 40%):(5 to 40%). The average particle size of the electric field controlling agent 38 is in the range of 5 to 30μm which is smaller than the average particle size of the carrier 36. Since negative charge silica is externally added as a fluidity improving agent to the agent 38, fog in an area where no image is printed can be effectively suppressed by the presence of the electric field controlling agent 38. Further, the toner 40 can be accurately deposited on an electrostatic latent image formed on a photosensitive body 10 so that sharpness of characters or lines can be effectively improved.
