PURPOSE: To obtain a highly efficient total heat exchanger, by providing a concentration difference in a hygroscopic substance added to a base material.
CONSTITUTION: The concentration of a hygroscopic substance 4 added by infiltrating into a base material 3 having a heat-transmitting property and a moisture-permeating property is varied so that it is higher on the high humidity side and lower on the low humidity side. A paper and a polymeric substance having a moisture-permeable property may be used as the base material 3, while a metallic salt such as lithium chloride, an organic substance such as ethylene glycol and a silica base or alumina base adsorbent may be used as the hygroscopic substance 4. Accordingly, total heat exchange with a high efficiency is enabled.
