PURPOSE: To provide a bridge type crane capable of shrinking the intake space of a suspended cargo and suppressing the sway and attitude fluctuation of the suspended cargo.

CONSTITUTION: This bridge type crane is provided with two travel rails 1, a girder 3 suspended astride both travel rails 1 and capable of traveling on the travel rails 1, a boom 5 horizontally fitted to the lower section of a trolley 4 traversable along the girder 3, a hoist 8 mounted on one end section of the boom 5 or the girder 3, a hoisting cable 9 fitted to the hoist 8 at one end section and suspended via a bending sheave 10 at the other end section of the boom 5, a grasping device 12 capable of grasping a suspended cargo 11 automatically or manually and connected to the other end section of the hoisting cable 9 via a pyramid coupling projection 12b protruded at the upper center, and a holding device 14 provided at the other end section of the boom 5 to be inserted with the hoisting cable 9 and provided with a coupling recess 14c couplable with the coupling projection 12b. When the coupling projections 12b and the coupling recess 14c are coupled with each other, the suspended cargo 11 is connected integrally with the boom 5.
