PURPOSE: To increase dust quantity capable of being contained in a dust collection bag by expanding the dust collection bag when an electric blower is operated, by using a dust collection bag compression plate which expands the dust collection bag from the outside when the electric blower is operated and compressing the dust collection bag from the outside when the electric blower is stopped.

CONSTITUTION: When a power switch is turned off after a cleaner is used, a control part stops the electric blower 10, and also, rotates a motor 24 for dust collection bag compression operation, and transmits a force to a rack 27 via gears 25, 26, and moves an interlocking dust collection bag compression plate 8 in the direction of dust collection bag, which compresses the dust collection bag 7. While, when the power switch of this vacuum cleaner is turned on, the control part operates the electric blower 10, and simultaneously, rotates the motor 24 for dust collection bag compression plate operation, and transmits the force to the rack 27 via the gears 25, 26, and releases the compression of the dust collection bag 7 by moving an interlocking dust collection bag compression plate 8 in the direction of electric blower. A compression release operation is completed by disengaging the rack 27 from the gear 26 just before the compression plate 8 comes in contact with a partition 3.
