Abstract:
PURPOSE:To lessen the internal resistance and prolong the lifetime by using synthesized fibers having modified surfaces and having a nitrogen containing functional radical and an oxygen containing functional radical coupled with high-molecular chain on the surfaces of fibers, and by specifying the surface density of the functional radicals. CONSTITUTION:In a battery separator the surface of fibers constituting unwoven cloth consisting of synthetic fibers is modified, and an oxygen containing functional radical and/or nitrogen containing functional radical coupled with high- molecular chains exist on the surface in a density that either of them is increased by 0.02 or more from the unmodified substance at the ratio of the number of atoms represented by O1s/C1s, N1s/C1s. This accomplishes affinity with an electrolyte with sufficient level for practical application to a synthesized resin which as a poor hydrophilic property to lead to enhancement of the working effectiveness in manufacturing batteries. Also the internal resistance of the battery is reduced. As material to be used for fibers constituting unwoven cloth can be named such sulfur-containing highpolymers as polyethylene, polyether sulphon, etc., favorably being polyester, polyamide, and sulfur- containing highpolymers.
