PURPOSE: To improve the safeness and exactness of the opening and closing operations of a sluice gate by using an opening and closing device for the gate, consisting of a handle shaft, a drive shaft, a ratchet, a movable brake plate, a reduction gear train, a clutch device and a gear bar, using a rack gear-type elevating bar.

CONSTITUTION: The opening and closing device for the sluice gate consists of a handle shaft 3 with a handle 2 and an engaging projection 3a, capable of turning in relation to a machine box 1, a drive shaft 10 having a female screw 10a on its periphery between the shaft 3 and a fixed brake plate 9, a ratchet 6 turning only in the rolling-up direction of the gate, a movable brake plate 4 holding and releasing the ratchet 6 in relation to the brake plate 9, a reduction gear train 38 for a centrifugal brake device 26 and a breke device 37, and a gear bar 17 vertically movable with the gate connected to the lower end with engagement with the clutch device 39. The device is opened or closed by operating an operating lever or handle 2. The gate can thus be easily, exactly and quickly opened or closed with high safety control.
