PURPOSE: To obtain a gas sensor excellent in the response, stability and the like preventing deterioration of a resistance heat generating element due to corrosion by covering a close ceramic coat layer with a porous ceramic thin layer carrying an oxidation catalyst after the resistance heat generating element is buried with the close ceramic coat layer.
CONSTITUTION: The kneaded mixture of fine powder of Al2O3 or the like and a binder resin solution is used to print a pattern ground of a resistance heat generating element 1 made of a Pt metalized paste or the like on a first ceramic ground sheet 2A, which is overlaid with a ground sheet 2B the same in the material as the ground sheet 2A. Ground sheet 3A and 3B of a porous ceramic thin film 3 is formed from an Al2O3 powder both with a large grain size to cover the ground sheets 2A and 2B. The laminated body is sintered to form a gas sensor body 5 having rough surfaces 4A and 4B. After cooled, the body 5 is dipped into a chloroplatinic acid and heated in the air to attach a Pt catalyst 6 to the layer 3. This prevents corrosion of the element 1 to keep a large catalytic activity of the layer 3 thereby providing a sensor excellent in the durability, response and the like without slipping off.
