Abstract:
A can transporting apparatus for moving cans through stations (44, 46), whereat the can interiors are spray-coated, comprises an indexing turret mechanism (20). Vacuum holders (90) rotatably mounted on the turret mechanism are continuously rotated throughout the path encompassing a feed station (42) and the work stations (44, 46). The vacuum holders (90) are continuously connected to vacuum by way of a manifold channel from just after the feed station to after the last work station. The cans are therefore brought to full rotational speed before reaching the first work station and spin at this speed through all the work stations. The apparatus enables even spray coating to be achieved without delays occasioned by spinning the cans separately at each work station and without the risk of pushing the cans off centre or damaging them as when cans are rotated by direct belt drive to the cans themselves.
