Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a carbonaceous catalyst precisely controlled in its pore system and having shape selectivity by mixing a modifying agent such as coal or pitch and a phenol resin and carbonizing the resulting mixture in such a state that the compounding amount of pitch, the amount of the phenol resin and a carbonizing condition are adjusted. CONSTITUTION:A solid substance is produced from coal and a phenol resin or coal, a phenol resin and a modifying agent such as pitch or anthracene and ground to be carbonized. At this time, the compounding amount of pitch, the amount of a phenol resin and a carbonizing condition are adjusted. By this method, a carbonaceous shape-selective catalyst having a pore size is 0.3-0.6nm, a pore volume distribution wherein the occupying ratio of a pore size of 0.04+ or -0.02nm with respect to an average pore size is 70% or more and a pore volume of 0.1-0.2cc/g is obtained. This catalyst puts shape selectivity to practical use in cooperation with the heat resistance and chemical resistance of carbon to be made adaptable to the control of chemical reaction.
