PURPOSE: To shorten the time required for distribution of registered postal matter in particular by reading the classification information and discrete information of objects, classifying and gathering these objects to prescribed gathering parts in accordance with the read classification information and outputting the information of the classified and gathered objects as one bundle.

CONSTITUTION: An information reading section 17 detects the positions of zip codes Z of the postal matter P, residence designations A and bar codes B respectively by a position detecting section 51 and detects and segments character information and bar codes B by a detection segmenting section 52. The character information and the bar codes B are identified by an identifying section 54. The classifying and gathering chambers where the postal matter is ought to be housed are instructed by a classification instructing section 55 in accordance with the the results of the identification. Further, a storage device 102 stores the identified bar codes B and the instructed classifying and gathering chamber data. A printer prints the classified and gathered postal matter as one bundle with quantities and classification directions and prints the printed matter with a bar code list by each of the classifying and gathering chambers.
