PURPOSE: To obtain a visual characteristic according to a transfer material and to optimize an amount of toner which is transferred do the transfer material by deciding the type of the transfer material and setting an image process parameter and transfer conditions according to the decision result.
CONSTITUTION: After the transfer material 15 is fed by a pickup roller 28 and carried by a carry roller 29 and a regist roller 30, whether it is a normal transfer material or an OHT sheet is decided. When the device detects that the transfer material is the opaque, normal paper, it holds the paper by wrapping it round a transfer drum 25. forms a full color image by multi-transfer for four colors at normal process speed, and then fixes the image at the same speed by means of a fixing roller 20. In the case of the OHT sheet, on the other hand, after wrapping the sheet round the transfer drum 25 to hold it, the device first carries out multi-transfer for the four colors at the normal process speed to form a full color image. Here, the values of bias voltages which are applied to the adsorption roller 38 and the transfer drum 25 are made different from those applied in the case of the plane paper.
