Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide an oil absorbent capable of selectively adsorbing and removing oil from a water/oil mixed system and excellent in water resistance, emulsified oil adsorptivity, detergent resistance, the delayed-release suppressing properties after the adsorption of a volatile oily substance, oil absorption and heat resistance.
CONSTITUTION: An oil absorbent is composed of hydrophobic silica with a BET specific surface area of 30-45m2/g, moisture of 10% or less, pH (4% dispersion) of 3.5-12, bulk density of 40-320g/L, an average particle diameter of 0.001-200μm and oil absorbancy of 100-350% prepared by coating silica with an organosilicon compd. to impact perfect water repellency to the surface thereof.
