Abstract:
A container holding scrap iron for steel production is placed on a stand in a preheating station, where hot gas is passed through it to heat the scrap iron to a high temperature. The container comprises a cylindrical upper part, and a lower part comprising openable bottom halves. The upper part and the bottom halves each consist of a gas tight shell supported by an external load carrying frame. The frames are made up from hollow tubular girders, through which cooling gas and/or liq. is circulated, to cool the frames and the container.
