Date Apr. 7, 1988.In order to be able to move pellets (10) in different sections of a conveying path at different speeds on chain conveyors (14, 16), without having to use step-by-step transmissions, it is proposed to place the pellets on at least two chain conveyors (14, 16), which travel at different speeds. By controlling the frictional resistance between the contact members (22 to 28) of the pellets (10) and the endless conveyors (14 and 16), it is possible to determine by which of the chain conveyors the pellet is respectively moved in synchronism, whereas a substantially power-free relative movement is possible between the pellet (10) and the other chain conveyor. The last-mentioned chain conveyor then serves momentarily solely for the vertical support of one side of the pallet.
